The altitude divides the base of the triangle into two equal parts.

So by Pythagoras theorem,

(Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Altitude)²

Putting the values we get,

(6)² = (3)² + (altitude)²

36 - 9 = 27

altitude = √27 = 3√3 cm
