Hg is a bad conductor of heat although it is used in thermometer,why....​

This is because of many reasons...

1- It is easily available in pure state.

2- It is non sticky.

3- It is opaque and can be easily seen through glass.

4- It has uniform and distinct rise for each °C rise in temperature.


anika11117: But as per the physical property of Hg it is a bad conductor of heat so how could it be much sensitive to body temperature
Rups02: it is a bad conductor of heat... that's for sure...but it expands uniformly with rise in temperature

Rups02: That has nothing to deal with conductance of Hg...since temperature rise occurs in all substances...even in insulators.
