in diode voltage drop is 0.5volt and power is 100milliwatt (100×10^-3watt) so firstly calculate current in diode . --

power =voltage×current . 100×10^-3=0.5×i , ,,, 0.1=0.5×i then current is 0.2 A and here it mentioned that diode and resistance connected in series and in series combination current is same so in R resistance current is also 0.2 A and voltage in R is 1.5-0.5= 1 volt (because 0.5 volt is drop in diode). using ohm's rule V=i×R ... 1=0.2×R then R is 5 ohm ans
