The electronegativity has certain trends in the modern periodic table which are as follows:

• Electronegativity of an element increases across a period when we move from left to right in the periodic table

• Electronegativity of an element decreases down a group in the periodic table, i.e. when we move from top to bottom in a group

The above trend in followed by all the periods and the 18 groups of elements in the modern periodic table.
