• Rough endoplasmic reticulum is concerned with the synthesis of protein because of the presence of ribosomes on its wall

And presence and the absence of ribosomes is the main reason of their difference

1. Ribosomes are absent on Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER)

2. Ribosomes are present on the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER)

The one who is concerned with the synthesis of protein is RER.

This is bcz it contains ribosomes which is responsible for the synthesis of protein.

SER doesn't contains ribosomes...... hence it can't synthesis protein.But it stores fats and lipids etc......
