When I write descriptive poems for my friends, I generally go about in the following manner.
Step 1 : List down her qualities, any special memory you two share, any unique names that you call each other, her dreams, some secret ( okay don't reveal the secret but you could just hint it in the poem), any important dates, other things related to her.Just jot down the words.
Step 2 : From the jotted words, try forming sentences that rhyme ( Personally I like poems that rhyme.)
Step 3 : Try using better words. Read their synonyms. Try replacing general words with some good phrases/ quotes/ idioms and use your creativity. Good words adorn the poems.
Step 4 : Connect the sentences and decide the sequencing.
Sit with a calm mind and preferably alone so that you think better and can be completely focussed on the subject.
