Hi friends,

In a right circular cone, the height is 3 times the radius of the base. If it's volume is 134.75cm^3, find
(A) the area of the base
(B) the curved surface area.

Let the radius be x cm.
Then height = 3x cm.
 Volume of cone = 1/3  pi r^2 h
1/3 *22/7 * x^2 * 3x = 134.75

x^3 = 42.875
x = 3.5
Radius = 3.5cm
Height = 10.5 cm

Area of base =  \pi r^2
                     = 22/7 * (3.5)^2
                     =38.5 sq. cm.
l =  sqrt (h^2  +  r^2)
  = 11.06  (approx.)
C.S.A.   = \pi r l
             = 22/7 * 3.5 * 11.06
             = 121.66 sq.cm.
