Hey,

●PUTTING FORWARD DIFFERENT POLICIES AND PROGRAMMES....
Different political parties put forward their different policies and programmes which gave the people an option to choose from them. People may have different views and it may not be possible for a government to handle such a large variety of views. Political parties play a crucial role by grouping together a large Ed number of similar opinions that can provide a direction in which policies of government can be formulated .political parties converts different opinions into basic policies and positions it supports.
●LAW MAKING.
The role played by political parties in making law is significant. Although laws are debated and passed by the legislature, but since most members of the legislature belongs to some political parties irrespective of what their personal views might be.
●FORMATION AND RUNNING OF GOVERNMENT....
The main objective of all political parties is to win election and form government. The party which gets absolute majority in the legislature forms the government and runs administration of country or a state .The main policy decisions are taken by the 'executive' that comes from political parties..
●SHAPING PUBLIC OPINION
By raising and highlighting various issues parties shape opinion. The large number of members and activities of the political parties help in spreading such opinion. This also helps political parties in launching movements and campaigns for the resolution of problems faced by the people.
●LINK BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE.
Political parties serve as a link between government and the people. For an ordinary citizen it is easier to approach a local party leader than a government officer .That is why they feel close to parties even when they do not fully trust them. Parties have to be responsive to people 's need and demand.
●NECESSITY
Because of the above crucial functions performed by political parties, they have become a necessity in modern democracy. Democracy cannot exist without political parties. For a moment imagine a situation without parties. In such a case, every candidate in the election will be independent. It will not be possible for any candidate to make any promise to the people regarding any major policy changes. It will be very difficult to form government when all the condidates are independent. Even if it is formed, it's utilities and future will remain uncertain. Nobody will be responsible for the country.
Thus, political parties and democracy have to coexist. 'Whether a country is big or small, old and new, developed or developing ,it cannot manage without political parties'.
Hope this will help you...
