let the breadth be x

therefore length of the rectangular park will be x+17

given

2(x+x+17)=178

2(2x+17)=178

2x+17=89

2x=72

x=36

the length =53

GIVEN:

  • The length of a rectangular park exceeds its breadth by 17 meters
  • The perimeter of the park is 178 meters

TO FIND:

  • What is the length and breadth of the rectangular park ?

SOLUTION:

Let the length of the park be 'L' m and breadth of the park be 'B' m

The length of a rectangular park exceeds its breadth by 17 meters

According to question:-

\bf{ L = B + 17....1)}

We know that the formula for finding the perimeter of rectangular park is:-

\bf{ Perimeter = 2(Length + Breadth)}

On putting the values in the formula we get

\rm{\mapsto 178 = 2(B + 17 + B)}

\rm{\mapsto 178 = 2(2B + 17 )}

\rm{\mapsto \cancel\dfrac{178}{2} = 2B+ 17}

\rm{\mapsto 89 = 2B + 17}

\rm{\mapsto 89-17 = 2B}

\rm{\mapsto 72 = 2B }

\rm{\mapsto B = \cancel\dfrac{72}{2}}

\bf{\mapsto B = 36\: m}

 The Breadth of the park is 36 m ❞

Put the value of B in equation 1)

\rm{\mapsto L = 36 + 17}

\bf{\mapsto L = 53 \: m}

 The Length of the park is 53 m ❞
