hi friends
why does a piece of steel sink in water but float on mercury ??
if a bowl is formed from the same steel piece then it can float in water . why ??

There is all the matter of density; steel sink in water because it have more density than the water but it float in mercury because mercury have more density than the steel.

becoz water is less dense than steel and Mercury is more denser than steel so the steel floats on Mercury and sinks in water
