Answer:

ship 1 =144 km
ship 2 =96 km

Step-by-step explanation:

let us take the distance travelled by the first ship as 3x
and distance travelled by the second ship as 2x
total distance travelled by both ships=3x + 2x=5x
distance travelled by first ship = 3 * 40 = 120 km

distance travelled by second ship=2*60=120km
5x=240km
x = 240/5
x= 48km

distance travelled by ship 1 = 3 *48 =144 km

distance travelled by ship 2=2 *48 =96 km

hope this is correct

The total distance traveled by Ship 1 is  360 km and the total distance traveled by Ship 2 is 240 km.

Let's call the total distance traveled by Ship 1 as 3x and the total distance traveled by Ship 2 as 2x.

Then, the time taken by Ship 1 to reach the destination is x / 40 kmph and the time taken by Ship 2 to reach the destination is x / 60 kmph.

Since the time gap between their arrivals is 1 hour, we have:

x / 40 = x / 60 + 1

Solving for x, we get:

x = 120 km

So, the total distance traveled by Ship 1 is 3x = 360 km and the total distance traveled by Ship 2 is 2x = 240 km.

The combined distance traveled by both ships is 360 km + 240 km = 600 km.
