I think the point is being virtuous is better than going to temple and worshiping God.

Those who have real faith in God will do all that is told in the poem and those who do not have real faith in God but go to the temple are not likely to heed to the advice in the poem.

This is a message emphasizing integrity between the inner man and outer man Going to temple facilitates this integration if the person employs the strategies apart from the temple To not go to the temple until integrity is established is foolish The temple IS the place to get the process started and sustained What you do with that knowledge apart from the temple is the key. Tagore was never able to experience his Spiritual SELF to know/understand that the Soul is not Eternal, but it is the Divine Spirit or Life Force within that is, and that the Soul (or Inner Voice within) enables connection/communication with the Divine Spirit, just like the mind enables connection/communication with the physical self and all of this is True
