Chloroform is a compound having molecular formula CHCl3. Chemically, it is employed as a solvent for fats , iodine, etc. It is used in the production of Freon refrigerant R-22.

Earlier , it was also used anaesthetic but now it has been replaced by ether because it is less toxic.

If we breath about 900 parts of chloroform per million parts of air for just a small time, then we may suffer from headache and dizziness.

Chloroform is stored in coloured bottles completely filled because it slowly oxidised by air in the presence of light to Phosgene, which is an extremely poisonous gas also known as carbonly chloride.
