Answer:

A.1) (i) n(AUB) = 15

(ii) n(A intersection B) = 10

(iii) n(A-B) = 0

(iv) n(B-A) = 5

A.2) (i) n(AUB) = 25

(ii) n(A intersection B) = 0

(iii) n(A-B) = 10

(iv) n(B-A) = 15

A.3) n(A intersection B) = 3

A.4) n(A) = 4 ; n(B) = 3 ; n(AUB) = 6 ; n(A intersection B) = 1

We have noticed that the number of elements in the union is less than the sum of two because it has an intersecting element.

A.5) n(A) = 3 ; n(B) = 4 ; n(AUB) = 7 ; n(A intersection B) = 0

We have noticed that the the number of elements in the union is equal to the sum of both the sets because here we don't have any intersecting element.

A.6) n(AUB) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A intersection B) is correct, because in the other equation if we simply add all the elements then the overlapping elements will be counted twice, once in A and then in B. Since we don't want this to happen we will not exclude them by subtracting the intersection from the total.
