They can interact with their owners more than fish or amphibians and will exhibit learned behaviors. The research needed to properly ouse, feed and take care of turtles can be an interesting hobby and aspects of breeding and selling offspring can offset costs of keeping these animals as pets. BUT knowledge of genetics and proper husbandry is a must before selling animals as selling inferior quality animals is deleterious to the population as a whole.
