Let f(x) = 1/2 x² - 3 x + 4

First we take half common for simplifying f(x) to integral coefficients.

f(x) = 1/2 (x² - 6 x + 8 )

Now we shall do middle term factorisation. We have to find two integers such that their sum is -6 and product is 8. Clearly, the integers are -2 and -4.

f(x) = 1/2 (x²-2 x -4 x + 8)

f(x) = 1/2 {x(x-2)-4(x-2)}

f(x) = 1/2 (x-2)(x-4)------------------ which is your solution.

Bonjour!¡

ANSWER:

1/2x²-3x+4 = 0

x²-6x+8 = 0

x²-4x-2x+8=0

x(x-4)-2(x-4) = 0

(x-2)(x-4) = 0

x = 2, 4
