HI MATES

I. Numerical problems:

1. Density of mercury is 13600 kgm^-3 . Calculate the relative density.

2. How high does the mercury barometer stand on a day when atmospheric pressure is 98.6 kpa?

3. The density of water is 1 g cm^-3 . What is its density in S.I units?

4. A block of wood of weight 200g floats on the surface of water. If the volume of block is 300 cm^3 . Calculate the upthrust due to water.

5. If you put one ice cube in a glass of alcohol, what would you observe? Explain your observations.

Answer:

1)density of mercury =13600kgm^-3

density of water= 1000kgm^-3

relative density =13600/1000

answer=13.6

2)H=Patm/HgG

98.6×10×10×10 N/m^2/ 13.6×10×10×10kg/m^3

*(9.8m/s(square)

=740 mm
