in the short story The Blue Bead by Norah Burke Sibia is a truly fantastic character. Sibia is a poor

child who has never owned much in her hole life. To quote Norah Burke “[a]thin starveling child

dressed in ...earth coloured [rag’s]”(56).Shows that Sibia can not pay for clothing it also shows us that

she is starving. another attribute of Sibia is that she is hard working because “...all her life from birth to

death,[she]was marked for work”(58). Sibia would help her mother to make money by picking paper

grass for hours on end. It was difficult seeing as on the way back the loads were so heavy. Lastly Sibia

is courageous When the crocodile started to attack, Sibia rescued the woman .Her heroism was...”as

common as a thorn tree ,she did not hesitate “(61). She stabbed the crocodile in the eye’s saving the

woman. In conclusion Sibia’s character is truly complex.
