The Strange Actor
There was an actor in Hollywood called Duck* Henderson. He was a brilliant actor, but had a strange character. He believes in realism, to act with real props, not the dummies. He insists on realism, even though it could be dangerous sometimes. He was a headache to his managers for this very reason. One fine day, Duck got a role in a new drama, related to a Chinese martial arts story. The first scene opened in a bar, when the hero and his friends were out drinking. Water was provided in fancy cups to look like alcohol, but the realism obsessed Duck insisted on liquor. The manager had to buy a bottle of wine for the scene, that ended badly when Duck got drunk after all the retakes! He messed up with his lines and was incredibly hard to get him sober. The next day, they had to shoot the second scene, where a fight breaks out against the rival gang in the bar. As the movie is about Chinese martial arts, there were fancy Chinese swords. Duck, you guessed it, wanted real swords! The manager tried convincing him that real swords are dangerous and somebody could really get hurt. Even after all the pleadings, Duck refuses to handle wooden swords. Sharp steel swords were brought, and in course of shooting, Duck swung his sword and it ended up injuring a stuntman. The third scene involved the rival gang members plots against the hero and the hero drinks poison. The manager got actual poison. Duck after drinking it, was unconscious and started to have fits. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was treated. Duck finally understood the danger of his obsession and promised to be sensible in the future.
*The name in the story has been slightly modified to better suit the platform, as the name was considered an inappropriate word!!!
