PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUICKLY,

Why does dry HCl gas not change the color of dry litmus paper?

Acidity of any compound is due to the ability of giving H+(postive)ions.

And HCl gives hydrogen ions only in aqueous form.

In this Hcl is also dry and litmus also

So, dry hcl doesnot act as acid and not changes colour of litmus.

Here is your answer :-

Dry HCL it does not dissociate to give H+ ions. Acids dissociate to give ions only in the aqueous solution. In this HCL is not in aqueous form nor litmus paper is wet, so the colour of litmus paper does not change
