let ¹/x+y=a and 1/x-y=b

20a+3b=7---(1)

8b-15a=5

-15a+8b=5--(2)

multiply eq (1) with 3 and eq (2) with -4

so these becomes

60a+9b=21

- 60a-32b=-20

___________________

41b=41

b=1

putting value of b in equation 1

20a+3=7

20a=4

a=1/5

since 1/x+y=a so and 1/x-y=b

1/x+y=1/5 1/x-y=1

5=x+y(5) x-y=1(6)

add (5) and (6)

5=x+y

+ 1=x-y

_______

6=2x

3=x

put this value in equation (6)

6-y=1

5=y

hence x=3 and y=5
