Given : x² - kx + 4 = 0
To Find : Value of k for which roots are equal
Solution:
x² - kx + 4 = 0
ax² + bx + c = 0
Has roots equal if D = 0
D = b² - 4ac
x² - kx + 4 = 0
has equal roots if
(-k)² - 4(1)(4) = 0
=> k² - 16 = 0
=> ( k + 4)(k - 4) = 0
=> k = - 4 , 4
x² - kx + 4 = 0
k = - 4 => x² +4x + 4 = 0 => x = - 2 , - 2
k = 4 => x² - 4x + 4 = 0 => x = 2 , 2
