Answer:
In the story "The Necklace", Matilda always ran behind her unlimited desires and wants. As a result, she had completely ruined her life.
For minister's party she bought a new dress and even borrowed a diamond necklace from her friend. No doubt she looked very pretty and became the center of attraction in the party. But all the happiness went into vain when on reaching home, she realized that her necklace was lost. She and her husband searched a lot but ultimately, they had to borrow a huge sum of amount to replace the necklace which cost them 36 francs. In order to repay the huge loan, they had to live a miserable life for ten years.
Things could have been settled right, if she had confessed the loss of necklace to her friend, Mme. Forestier. This small mistake had made her whole life miserable as the necklace was not even worth 500 francs in reality. Therefore, Truth has a great power and we must always speak the truth without caring about the result.
Hope it helps..!! ^_^
