High adventure
And bright dream-
Maps are mightier
Than they seem: read the stanza. How are high adventure and bright dream related to maps
Answers
Answer:
1. Maps are mightier/ Than they seem
(a) The line suggests that maps do not seem very mighty at
first. Why should that be?
ANS- A map may look like a small piece of page but it is in
fact a store house of knowledge. It imbibes immense
knowledge in it.
(b) How does the entire poem argue that maps are in fact,
not only important but also magical?
ANS- Maps are magical as they can transport one to any land
one wishes to.
2. Ships, markets, ice and aeroplanes – the poem mentions these
things in such a way that all of them sound attractive. How
does it do that?
ANS- the poet fires the reader’s imagination by making them
visualize Ships navigating to unknown lands following the
direction given by the guiding stars. Markets are described as
strange meaning that they are so far not known to anyone. He
mentions that there are sheets of ice floating all around. The
planes are also air borne to new destinations. The reader can
visualize all these images mentioned by the poet.
