3 The Harappan Civilization was a highly developed urban civilization. The ruins show that the people had a high degree of civic sense. Their town planning and drainage system was excellent. The great public granary at Harappa was another big public building which had small compartments inside.
The society was well organized and divided into four classes on the basis of work. The Brahmins were the learned class, Kshatriyas were warriors, Vaishyas were traders, and the Shudras were the menial workers.
