A cyclone has high speed winds followed by low pressure air region blowing.
Thus during a cyclone, the high speed winds  over the roof tops, nothing much happens. But when the low pressure region comes above the loose roof top, due to pressure difference between inside and outside the roof, the roof top is blown away in air.

Tie two blown balloons to a rod so that there is some gap of 20 cm between the inner surfaces of the balloons.  Now place your mouth in the center of the balloons and blow air between them.  Initially the balloons go up horizontally in air and get separated a little more. But when you stop blowing, the region develops low pressure, as compared to the air on the other side of balloons.  So the balloons come closer to about 10 cm or 15 cm.

Take a light paper piece, or thermocol piece or a small feather. keep it in a plastic bottle (1 or 2 litre mineral water bottle.   Keep the bottle horizontal with its mouth towards your mouth. Start with the paper piece or feather at the mouth of the bottle.  Then blow air slowly and steadily through the bottle.  It first goes to the bottom of the bottle and then after u stop blowing, it comes back to the mouth again.  It comes back because at the mouth there is a low pressure region.  So air from the bottom of the bottle rushes towards the mouth.
