The famous revolution of 1857 was a significant event in the records of modern India.  Outcomes of the revolts are ;

1. The revolt concluded the decline of the East India Company’s rule in India. After the decline,  India was placed under the direct rule of the British Crown.

2.  The Indian government was directly placed under the rule of  Queen Victoria. The British Governor General’s office was substituted by the Viceroy.

3. The Doctrine of Lapse was removed. The right to adopt and raise sons as legitimate inheritors were allowed.

4.  All the gained and dominated territories of revolutionaries were slowly reconquered.

5. The reorganization of the whole Indian British soldiers was first time experimented with the formula of “divide and rule”.

The first war for independence in India had both positive and negative impacts on the indigenous and the foreigners

The positive outcomes included:-

Self acceptance and self esteem

The natives believed in themselves as they fought bravely

Unity

They all united to achieve one common goal


Negative Outcomes

Loss of life .

Many were killed and maimed at the same time

Loss of properties as they were looted and damaged during the war


Fear among the people

They were afraid and lived in a psychological mental torture and guilt as a result of the war towards independence
