Thomas Sawyer is the title character of the novel written by Mark Twain, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."  The story was written in 1876 about an orphaned young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. The author portrays the life of Tom Sawyer and his 2 friends and brings out the kid's spirit and longing for adventure through various scenes in the novel. Some interesting incidents mentioned in the novel include:

Tom bunks school to go for a swim. His aunt asks him to pain the fence as punishment the next day.

Tom cleverly trades some trinkets to get the local children to do some tedious work for him.

He falls in love with Becky Thatcher, the daughter of a prominent judge, but she breaks up later.

Tom and two other kids run off to a near by island to become pirates.
