The existing national waterways (NW) are: (i) NW-1 : Allahabad-Haldia stretch of the Ganga-Bhagirathi-Hooghly river system (1620 km) was designated as NW -1 in 1986. (ii) NW-2 : Sadiya-Dhubri stretch of the Brahmaputra river (891 km), declared as NW-2 in 1988.
