Mahalwari system is one of the main revenue systems of the British in India.Holt Mackenzie and Robert Merttins Bird started this system in 1822.Under this system the land revenue was not fixed, it was collected bye the village headmen.The land revenue fluctuated with the produce.
The land was owned by the peasants and farmers and they had to pay their share of revenue.This system was introduced in the North west frontier, agra, punjab , central province etc.
