Explanation:
Before we visited we tried to find information about potential short hikes at Mt. Yushan and unfortunately weren't successful. Therefore I'd like to share with you the trek we ended up doing.
We parked our car in the car park of Tataka visitors center and headed from there to the trail entrance. The trail starts across the street from the parking area/public toilet, roughly 15 meters in the direction of the drive way of the visitors center (next to the red sign/ check out the gallery).
Our first stop was Datieshan gigantic hemlock tree. The tree is over 600 years old and more than 25 meters high. The tree is absolutely impressive. It stands at an intersection. You can go either way since the trek becomes a loop at this point.
We continued to Linzhi Mountain entrance. The view at Linzhi mountain entrance is absolutely breathtaking. We walked on via the peak of Linzhi Mountain to Yushan trailhead. From there you can return to Datieshan and then make your way back down to the car park at Tataka visitors center. The mentioned destinations are all very well signed and the path is in good condition.
The hike took us roughly 3 hours with a couple of short breaks. I'd recommend this hike to everyone who does not want to make it up Yushan mountain itself/doesn't have a permit for Yushan but still wants to make the most of this stop.
Additional information: The visitors center is closed every second Tuesday of the month. Also, while there is a restaurant at the visitors center, there is no convenience store, so being your drinks and snacks for the hike from somewhere else.
