Hight anythree causes of soil erosion
Answers
Answer:
(i) Deforestation is a major cause of soil erosion, perhaps the main cause. Trees and their roots provide the soil with an anchor. Tree roots act to hold the soil together. By deforestation, we leaving it vulnerable to being washed or blown away by elements.
Agriculture is probably the most significant activity that accelerates soil erosion because of the amount of land that is farmed and how much farming practices disturb the ground
(ii) Agrochemicals Cause Soil Erosion and Degradation due to decreased soil fertility.
(iii) Grazers expose soil by removing the plant cover for an area. If too many animals graze the same land area, the animals’ hooves pull plants out by their roots. The soil that is most likely to erode is the nutrient-rich topsoil
(iv) Mining is another major industry that directly adds to soil erosion. By its nature, mining requires the removal of earth to retrieve resources below the surface. Logging, similar to deforestation, causes soil erosion as it removes the trees protecting the soil from the elements, anchoring it to the ground.
(v) Constructing buildings and roads churns up the ground and exposes soil to erosion. The vibrations from these activities looses the soil, and thus supports soil erosion.
Recreational activities may accelerate soil erosion. Off-road vehicles disturb the landscape and the area eventually develops bare spots where no plants can grow.
