Erythroblastosis fetalis, also called hemolytic disease of the newborn, type of anemia in which the red blood cells (erythrocytes) of a fetus are destroyed in a maternal immune reaction resulting from a blood group incompatibility between the fetus and its mother.

Can erythroblastosis fetalis be prevented? A preventive treatment known as RhoGAM, or Rh immunoglobulin, can reduce a mother's reaction to their baby's Rh-positive blood cells. This is administered as a shot at around the 28th week of pregnancy.

HELLO ☺️☺️

ERYTHROBLASTOSIS FOETALIS....

THIS CONDITION ARISES WHEN THE MOTHER IS Rh(-)ve AND FATHER IS Rh(+)ve. BY LAW OF DOMINANCE THE BABY WILL BE Rh(+)ve.

NOW THE MOTHER DOES NOT HAVE THIS ANTIGEN BUT THE BABY HAS. MOTHER'S BODY WILL TREAT THE Rh ANTIGEN OF THE BABY AS A FOREIGN PARTICLE AND WILL RELEASE ANTIBODIES AGAINST THE ANTIGEN AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY. THE FIRST CHILD WILL BE SAFELY DELIVERED.

WHEN THE SAME MOTHER CONCEIVES FOR THE SECOND TIME THE BABY IS AGAIN Rh(+)ve AND THE ANTIBODIES PRODUCED BY THE MATERNAL BODY WILL KILL THE BABY IN THE FOETAL STAGE. THIS IS ERYTHROBLASTOSIS FOETALIS.

THIS CAN BE PREVENTED BY ADMINISTERING THE MOTHER WITH INJECTIONS LIKE 'ANTI D' SI THAT THE ANTIBODIES ARE NOT PRODUCED.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ☺️☺️☺️
