Answer:

Lapping is a machining process in which two surfaces are rubbed together with an abrasive between them, by hand movement or using a machine. This can take two forms. ... The other form of lapping involves a softer material such as pitch or a ceramic for the lap, which is "charged" with the abrasive.

  • Lapping is a surface finishing process. Lapping is the abrading of a surface by means of laps that are rubbed against the work. The face of the lap become charged with fine abrasive particle, these particles become embedded in the softer lap, Then it becomes holder for the abrasive particles.

  • It is abrading process for improving the surface finish by reducing the toughness, waviness and such others irregularities on the surface. The basic purpose of lapping is to minimise the minute irregularities left during machining process.
