Answer: Republic Day is celebrated every year on 26 Jan in India. This is because on this day the Indian Constitution came into effect. The Indian Constitution came into effect on 26 Jan 1950. This year we are celebrating our 70th Republic Day.Dr. B.R. Ambedkar along with the constituent assembly framed our Constitution with the main aim being to abolish discrimination and provide equality to all, it gives certain fundamental rights and duties to each citizen of India. One of its main features is Universal Adult Franchise which says that all citizens above 18 years of age have the right to vote.
