J. J. Thomson, who discovered the electron in 1897, proposed the plum pudding model of the atom in 1904 before the discovery of the atomic nucleus in order to include the electron in the atomic model. ... In this model the atom was also sometimes described to have a “cloud” of positive charge.
DRAWBACK S
According to the postulates of Thomson's atomic model, an atom resembles a sphere of positive charge with electrons (negatively charged particles) present inside the sphere. The positive and negative charge is equal in magnitude and therefore an atom has no charge as a whole and is electrically neutral.

Thomson's model:
It was explained by J.J Thomson.The Thomson model is often called as water melon model or plum pudding model.He had explained that while considering in water melon the dense red part ,he named itt as protons and the seeds ad sprinkled named as electrons.
Drawbacks Of Thomson's Model::::::
1)He couldn't explain stability of an atom.
2)He couldn't explain the hydrogen spectrum.
3)The law that he proposed that protons are the red part on rand electrons are embedded in it ,was to be irrelevant.....
