Odd-ion effect occurs when any ion from other electrolyte consumes any ion from interfering electrolyte and hence neutralises common ion effect so degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte is increased. Similarly, odd-ion effect also occurs when any added electrolyte or ion directly combines an ion from weak electrolyte and hence again the degree of dissociation of weak electrolyte is increased.

For example, degree of dissociation of H2S is increased in presence of alkali (OH) which consumes H from H2S and hence H2S ionises more and Sulfide concentration increases.

Common ion effect is decrease in ionisation of a weak electrolyte in presence of a common ion from any other electrolyte present in the solution.

For example, the degree of dissociation of acetic acid is decreased in presence of HCl or CH3COONa or HCOOH etc.
