Karnataka did not occupy Karwar. Karwar has been a major port for all the rulers from Karnataka. Konkani does not have its own script. So also, Marathi, which evolved from Prakrit in a crude form. History from 5th Century shows that it was Kannadigas who ruled over a significant part of the present day Maharashtra. Such questions about Kannada, Kannadiga and its territories are normally coming from the ignoramuses and Goons who have not gone outside their own district perhaps. They do not know that Mumbai, Bombay as it was called in those days, was first claimed by Guajarati people. Later, the demand was to make it a union territory. that is all history. But, what about Belagavi or Belgaum? Justice Mahajan, though a Maharashtrian himself, gave it to Karnataka. Just because there was a large-scale migration from Marathi regions into Belagavi did not entitle them to claim Belagavi. Beggars could not be choosers. And, remember, Gandhiji presided over only one All India Congress conference throughout his life. That was at Belagavi. And who organised it? Karnataka Provincial Congress Committee. Remember, it was in 1924. Neither Karnataka nor Maharashtra existed those days as geographical regions. Nor had India achieved independence.
