It is because the Britishers are the first who started Sundayfrom 1843 as a holiday because In Christianity, God create this world in 6 days,andsunday he took rest. Christian Prays in Church every Sunday. So,for Pray in Church Sunaday is holiday in Christianity.

People working for a week needed a day to rest and to attend to their chores.All combined together has resulted in choosing sunday asholiday, though all factors could have been independent.

It has to do with the tradition of Christians.Its believed that the God took rest on Sunday and  according to the tradition, Sunday was the day Jesus rose from the dead. So  the day is significant.This has been followed by the people around the world and made it a day to take rest out from their work.
