Sunlight reaches earth's atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by the gases and particles in the air .Blue light is scattered more than the other colours because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why sky is blue.

The molecules of air and other fine particles in the atmosphere have smaller size than the wavelength of visible light.

Thus, when sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the fine particles in air scatter the blue colour (shorter wavelengths) more strongly than red. The scattered blue light enters our eyes.
