Why do we need to decrease friction and how it can be decreased???

Friction is an unavoidable force. Every moving object experiences friction, which tries to reduce its speed. Friction in a car engine slows it down. Friction on your feet helps you walk. In some of these cases, it would be very useful to reduce friction. If there were no friction in a car's engine, it would use much less fuel when driving around. This would make cars cheaper to run, and less polluting. However, less friction between the tyres and the road would make driving very dangerous, like driving on ice.

Friction is a necessary evil which causes a lot of wear and tear in machine parts that move against each other. It erodes the surfaces and destroys their symmetries. Hence, in such cases it is desirable to reduce friction.

Friction is reduced by lubricating surfaces to decrease the friction.
