Answer:

Correct Question:

A car started from town P at 70 km/hr towards town Q.

At the same time can starts from town Q at speed 60 km/hr towards Town P

After 2¾ hrs = 11/4 hours, they are still 65 km aparts.

To find:

1. Distance between the towns

2. When they will cross each other.

Calculation:

Distance covered by car :

D1 = 70 × 11/4 = 192.5 km

Distance covered by van :

D2 = 60 × 11/4 = 165 km

Hence distance between 2 towns

= D1 + D2 + 65

= 192.5 + 165 + 65

= 422.5 km

2nd part:

Let us consider that the car meets after travelling distance "x" . Hence the van meets the car after travelling "422.5 - x "

But the time taken to cover these distances is same.

Time by car = Time by van

X/70 = (422.5 - x)/60

=> 60x = (422.5 × 70) - 70x

=> 130x = 422.5 × 70

=> 13x = 422.5 × 7

=> x = (422.5 × 7)/13 .........(1)

So the time taken

= x/70

= (422.5 × 7)/(13 × 70)

= 42.25/13

= 3.25 hours.

So they will meet after 3.25 hours.
