If cells are joined by side by side , they are said to be connected in parallel. Components that are connected in parallel provide alternative pathways for current flow . When cells are connected in parallel to total voltage they provide does not change...

When there is power cut in series total appliances will not work but in parallel connection , if power cut then only one appliance will not work...
