The angle between the interface and the ray is given as 30° .

Now ,we know angle of incidence is angle from the normal .

Therefore , angle of incident is , i = 90 - 30 = 60°.

Now , angle between the extension of incident ray and interface be 30° ( by vertical opposite angle ) .

Therefore , angle of refraction , r = 90 - ( 30 + 30 ) = 30° .

Now , we need to find the refractive index :

So , Refractive index ,

R = sin i/sin r

R = sin 60°/sin 30°

R = √3/2 / 1/2

R = √3

  • Refractive index has no unit as it is a ratio.
