now, apply triangle area formula
1/2 *b*h
for the un-shaded region 1/2 PD*BC => 1/2* 4*8
and find the area of the big triangle(whole triangle) 1/2+b+h => 1/2* 8*8
then subtract the small triangle from big triangle you will get the shaded region area
