The main points of difference are as follows :

Bryophyta

  • Their main body is gametophyte in nature.
  • True vascular system is absent.
  • No division of plant body into true root, shoot and leaves can be seen in them.
  • Non - vascular plant in nature that is xylem and phloem vessels are absent in them.
  • Their sex organs are stalked in nature.
  • Rhizoids are present instead of roots.
  • Gametophyte stages dominant over sporophyte.

Now let's look towards the pteridophyta :

Pteridophyta

  • Main body is sporophytic in nature.
  • Here the sporophyte shows no dependence upon the gametophyte hence both are independent of each other.
  • True roots, leaves and stem can be seen in them unlike bryophytes.
  • Roots are present in them and no rhizoids are found.
  • They are true vascular plants main xylem and phloem vessels can be seen in them and conduction is performed through them to the entire plant body.
  • They show much higher organised structure in every aspect than that of the bryophytes.
