Area of the square = 8 x 8 = 64 cm²

Find the area of 1 quadrant:

Area = 1/4 πr²

Area = 1/4 π (8)²

Area = 1/4 π (8)² = 352/7 cm²

Find the area of the square that is not shaded by the quadrant:

*See attachment for Area 1

Area not shaded by the quadrant = 64 -   352/7  = 96/7 cm²

Find total area not shaded by the two overlapping quadrants:

*See attachment for Area 1 and Area 2

Area not shaded by the quadrants = 96/7 x 2 = 192/7 cm²

Find the shaded area:

Area of the shaded region = 64 - 192/7  = 256/7 = 36.57 cm²

Answer: The shaded region is 36.57 cm²
