Answer:

1.

i) 3x + 7 has two terms.

ii) 5xyz has only one term.

iii) 7ab - 3c + 9 has three terms.

2. 6

Step-by-step explanation:

1.

i) 3x + 7 has two terms.

ii) 5xyz has only one term.

iii) 7ab - 3c + 9 has three terms.

2.

SIMPLIFY 4x² - 7x + 2x² + 4x - 3, find the value of x = -1.

Solution:-

Let the polynomial be p(x) = 4x² - 7x + 2x² + 4x - 3

To find:-

Value at p(-1) = ?

Procedure:-

\implies \sf p(x) = 4x^2 - 7x + 2x^2 + 4x - 3

\implies \sf P(-1) = 4(-1)^2 -7(-1) + 2(-1)^2 + 4(-1) -3

\implies \sf p(-1) = 4(1) -7(-1) + 2(1) + 4(-1) -3

\implies \sf p(-1) = 4 +7+2-4-3

\sf \implies p(-1) = 6

Extra Information:-

  • Polynomials : Polynomial are variable based dialect in the language of maths.

  • In a common language , polynomials are defined as a string of variables and numbers put together.

  • Highest power of a polynomial is called degree of polynomial.

  • A constant polynomial is nothing but a monomial with degree zero.

  • Equation: A condition or a constraint placed on x and y coordinates.

  • Curve: A union of points that satisfy a particular condition.

  • Remainder theorem: When p(x) is divided by (x - a) then the remainder is given by p(a).

1. (i) 3x+7

Ans:- It has two terms.

(ii) 5xyz

Ans:- It has only one term.

(iii) 7ab-3c+9

Ans:- It has three terms.

2. 4x²-7x+2x²+4x-3 [ value of x = -1 ]

= (4×-1×-1)-(7×-1)+(2×-1×-1)+(4×-1)-3

= 4-(-7)+(2)+(-4)-3

= 4+7+2-4-3

= 13-7

= 6
