This because Prime ministers exercise supreme powers in the country. The powers of the Prime minister have increased in all parliamentary democracies so much in the recent decades. The Prime Minister is the head of the govt. All ministers work under his leadership. When the prime minister quits the entire ministry quits. Within the cabinet it is the prime minister who is the most powerful. Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi are few examples to support the answer.
