India is at unique location it covered by water bodies Such as Arabian sea , Bay of Bengal and most significant Indian ocean .
This location is significant in many ways :-
1. Maritime trade - it is link to western world such as Europe , Africa and America . Which boost trade link as cheapest means as sea route are considered as cheapest in long trade route .
2. Culture trade - In past , history tells us we had great influence of Western Europe because we have great trade link with them Indian spices and cotton were exported and even they settled down at Indian coast example - Goa discovered by portugese explorer Vasco da gama .
3. Fishing - Due to large coastline , India has huge potential in exporting sea foods such as fish, crabs , shrimps and lobster.
4. Reserve gas/ resources- ocean beds have large resources like methane ,shale gas which is an important resources for India
5. Defence - It act as strategic location in terms of country's security.
6. Biodiversity - There are many aquatic organism which are yet to be discovered . Coral reef acts are present in Andaman and nicobar island a sign of great biodiversity.
7. Tourism. - Owing large coastline can be added advantage to boost economy . If various water sports are promoted like ferry service it will help to boost tourism in country .
